There is no distinction between the body and the brain. The brain is in the body and in the brain you have a “map” of the body. The cerebral cortex is the outer layer of the brain, a part of it we call the motor cortex, which plays an important role in voluntary movements. The sensory cortex is located next to the motor cortex, which receives and interpreting sensory information from various parts of your body. The “bodymap” in the brain is called a homunculus and plays a role in the creation of body image. When you practice yoga, you learn to; be aware of bodily sensations, move your body with attention; which affect this map and so your body image.
